Joel Hobbs and the Austin Mandolin Orchestra is proud to present an Opus Twelve Recital. Joel has written over 20 new pieces for mandolin including solos, duos, trios, quartets and a large work for mandolin orchestra. The Austin Mandolin Orchestra and some special guests will be presenting the world premiere of these pieces at Blackerby Recital Hall. The performance will also be live streamed.

Choro das Tres

Sunday, July 7th, Choro Workshop (4-6pm), Concert (7-9pm) at Casa de Luz

Fresh from their appearance at the Mandolin Symposium, Choro das Tres will make a stop in Austin Texas on Sunday July 7, 2013. Choro das Tres is a Brazilian trio which was formed in 2003. Choro (''cry'' or ''lament'' in English) is a Brazilian Popular music. Its origins are from the 19th century. In spite of the name, the style often has a fast and happy rhythm, characterized by virtuosity and improvisation. This instrumental music is considered the first urban music of Brazil. Like Jazz in USA, Choro had influenced all the Brazilians genres, including Samba, Forró and Bossa Nova.

The group will present a two-hour Choro music workshop from 4-6pm at Casa de Luz in downtown Austin Texas. The workshop will be focused on mandolin and guitar but open to all musicians interested in learning Choro music. The cost for the workshop will be $35. The group will also perform a concert from 7-9pm at the same location ($15).
